This movie is the main reason I added this movie to my collection (although I'm curious about Bergman's early Swedish films, as well). I'm excited about watching this version back-to-back with Joan Crawford's version of this story and seeing how they compare and contrast with one another.

As well, if you care to watch this film, here is the entire film presented by The Internet Archive "for your viewing pleasure" [What video introduction does that phrase come from? Anybody? I know I heard it hundreds of times, in a commercial message immediately preceding a program, maybe? Or, was it uttered by a 60's Master of Ceremonies presenter on one of those interminable Ed-Sullivan-type shows? I just don't remember its context.]

Wikipedia doesn't have a write-up of this film series. I've included the Wikipedia links for the individual movies in their write-ups, above. As well, here is the Criterion presentation of this film set which includes mini-descriptions of each film. For a longer description of the individual films in this set, try this article by ioncinema, in which Nicolas Bell presents longer, more ruminative reviews of each film. - The Count of the Old Town
