In the Bedroom
- Commentary: Under construction.
This is a film about which I've heard and read much, over the years, but haven't yet purchased for my collection. Until now. You see, I received an unexpected, magnanimous check from someone this year for my birthday and, suddenly, padding my collection out, a bit, became possible.
I'm very excited about receiving this, especially since it includes two of my absolutely favorite actors. There is, in the Wikipedia article about this film, an interesting note in the first paragraph of the "Sundance" section of the Wikipedia write-up (the immediately previous link will take you to this section) that has some revelatory information about the business of producing a film, any film, I'd guess. Don't miss it.
More later, when I've received and watched this film.

Well, all I can say is that this film must not be selling very well because I just, literally, stumbled across it at an amazingly low price, well under $10 including taxes and shipping, and decided, yeah, okay. See, the thing is, I love Cate Blanchett's performances, for the most part, even though I haven't kept strictly up with all of them but, in my defense, I've seen some of the much less ballyhooed performances, too. I even have two of them in my collection.
At contention is the portrayal of Tár's personal power dynamic, at play not only in her conducting but in her personal relationships, as well. I haven't seen the movie yet, though. In fact, I won't even be receiving it for another ten days to two weeks. When I find an unbeatable price, though, for a movie about which my curiosity has been piqued, I usually go for it.
Since I won't be viewing it for awhile (since I won't be receiving it for awhile), here is an article about the various reactions of the Classical Music World to the film. It's a pretty interesting to consider, especially if you're familiar with Classical Music and the activity within that genre.
Definitely more, definitely later.

Rain

It's hard to find reviews of this film, especially by longstanding, "respectable" and respected film critics. Since I haven't seen the film, even though it's been on my radar forever, I don't have a clue, yet, as to why this is true, but that will be corrected shortly when I add it to my collection. I imagine the fact that it has been, throughout the years, so widely ignored is due to the seemingly muddled position it takes on ethical matters, which would have made it a diffcult film for critics to deal with in 1932 and, surprisingly, now.
